ORTEGA'S was founded by Gabriel Ortega, a member of a group of Spanish pioneers in the Chimayo region of New Mexico, USA. Today, the knowledge and techniques have been passed down for eight generations.
Around 1900, ORTEGA opened ORTEGA'S Weaving Shop, and blanket production began with his relatives and the entire village of Chimayo.
The skills and pride of Chimayo blankets, passed down from parent to child and child to grandchild, continue to live on in ORTEGA'S products today, just as they did when the blankets were first made, and they are now highly regarded worldwide as a traditional hand-woven craft representative of the American Southwest.
