DESCRIPTION
[Item details]
A handmade vest from ORTEGA'S, which continues to preserve the traditional methods of Chimayo Village, New Mexico.
The 100% wool blanket fabric is woven on hand looms by skilled craftsmen, and each one has a unique texture and a heavy feel that is different from other blankets.
The vibrant native print stands out against the calm charcoal color, and craftsmanship is evident in every detail, including the leather walnut buttons and side slits.
[ORTEGA'S]
ORTEGA'S was founded by Gabriel Ortega, a member of a group of Spanish settlers in the Chimayo region of New Mexico, USA. The knowledge and techniques have been passed down through eight generations.
Around 1900, ORTEGA'S Weaving Shop was opened, and blanket production began with the help of relatives and the entire village of Chimayo.
The techniques and pride of Chimayo blankets, passed down from parent to child and child to grandchild, continue to live on in ORTEGA'S products today, just as they did when the people first settled there. They are now highly regarded worldwide as a traditional hand-woven craft representative of the American Southwest.
