SAINT JAMES
The city of Saint James is located in the Normandy region of northern France.
The company was founded in 1889, as is still inscribed on its name tag.
In the mid-19th century, after the Industrial Revolution, the spinning and dyeing of yarns, which had previously been done by hand in ateliers, was industrialized by Léon Lugaret, then mayor of St. James, and became part of the textile industry, which became a major industry in the region. The high quality wool from the sheep that grazed on the flats of Mont Saint-Michel produced the marine sweaters that were an important work wear for the local fishermen and sailors, and were the prototype for the practicality of today's St. James shirts.

The business continued to grow rapidly in the 20th century, and the company name was changed to the current name, TRICOT SAINT JAMES. In January 2005, Tricot St. James was awarded the "EDC Excellence Award," which is given to excellent companies that contribute to society and are highly regarded as "companies that correctly carry on traditions and transmit the spirit of France. In 2013, the company was also awarded the EPV label, which recognizes excellence in handicrafts and technology, a distinction that is granted to approximately 1,400 companies in France.
