Filson was founded in 1897 in Seattle, Washington as an "outdoor clothing manufacturer" to tackle the Gold Rush. To survive in the harsh environment of gold mining, Filson began producing clothing using the finest natural materials and uncompromising design and sewing, and the Filson mark has come to be said to be synonymous with trust for men working in Alaska and the Northwest. For wool, it still takes more than two years from harvesting the raw wool to finishing the product, and because of this stubbornness, it continues to be loved by people who require true quality in harsh natural environments, such as U.S. forest rangers, lumberjacks, hunters, and adventurers, and is also used by some staff members of the U.S. Air Force and Army.
