DESCRIPTION
[ZUNI tribe]
The Zuni people live mainly in the Zuni settlement about 50 kilometers south of Gallup, New Mexico. The Zuni are a single ethnic group with a small population of about 12,000 people, but they have very strong ties within their own tribe, and have maintained friendly relations with their neighbors even in the face of external invasions, continuing to live in their ancient Zuni villages.
Like the Hopi, they are very closed off and secretive when it comes to spirits and tribal ceremonies, and in this way have been able to preserve their unique traditions even in the face of outside intrusions.
Many people are smiling and relaxed, and the village is famous for its inlays made from finely cut stones, cluster jewelry and fetishes, and pots fired in a kiln. The village is very relaxed, and you can feel the laborious work involved in making inlays and clusters here.
