Sanders & Sanders Ltd. was founded in Rushden in 1873 by brothers William and Thomas Sanders, and is the last competent manufacturer in Northampton, the holy land of shoes, with a history of about 135 years.
The company is in its fourth generation of family management and employs over 90 craftsmen.
Although now supplemented by production machinery and sophisticated computer-controlled systems, the traditional Goodyear welt method is still used today, and the company's commitment to materials remains unchanged, using natural materials for most of its parts.
As proof of this, the company has obtained the Assurance certification IS09002, which is granted to only a few manufacturers in the British footwear industry.
As well as supplying the UK market, the company exports its products to over 30 countries and territories.
Sanders Uniform Footwear Collection in particular is renowned as the collection of choice for many police, military, and security footwear applications around the world.
In addition, most of the leather shoes (made in the UK) supplied to the British Ministry of Defense (MOD) are made by Sanders (a very large concession), and approximately 50% of the factory is allocated to its production line.
Therefore, Sanders is able to produce traditional "Made in England" shoes with excellent cost performance, even though its own collection uses the same goodyear welt method and natural materials as other Northampton manufacturers.
