프랑스 북부 노르망디 지방에 있는 SAINTJAMES시. 그 마을의 이름을 딴 세인트 제임스사는, 지금도 네임 태그에 새겨져 있는 대로 1889년에 창설되었습니다.
산업혁명 후 19세기 중반, 그때까지 아틀리에에서의 수작업이었던 방적, 염사업은 당시의 세인트 제임스 시장이었던 레온 루가레씨에 의해 공업화되어 지역의 주요 산업이 되는 섬유업 일단을 쌓았습니다.
몽생미셸의 갯벌 목초지에서 자란 양에서 취할 수 있는 양질의 양모는 현지 어부와 선원들의 소중한 일복인 해양 스웨터를 만들어 내고 실용성을 갖춘 현재 세인트 제임스 셔츠의 원형 되어 있습니다.
20세기에 들어서도 사업은 급성장했고 회사명은 현재의 'TRICOT SAINT JAMES'로 개정되었습니다.
해양 스포츠와 캐주얼 웨어로서 한층 더 발전을 이루었습니다만, 전통적인 수법에 의한 제조 정신은 변함없이 현재까지 계승되고 있습니다. 2005년 1월, 「전통을 바르게 계승해 프랑스의 정신을 전달하는 기업」으로서 높이 평가되어 사회에 공헌한 우량 기업에 수여되는 EDC 우수상 “EDC ETHIQUE & GOUVERNANCE”를 수상.
2013년에는 프랑스 국내의 약 1400사가 인정을 받고 있는 탁월한 수공업·기술을 가진 기업으로 인정되는 EPV 라벨도 취득.
The city of SAINT JAMES is located in the Normandy region of northern France.
The company, named after the town, was founded in 1889, as is still engraved on its name tag.
In the mid-19th century, after the Industrial Revolution, the spinning and dyeing of yarns, which had previously been done by hand in ateliers, was industrialized by Léon Lugaret, then mayor of St. James, and became part of the textile industry, which became a major industry in the region.
The high quality wool from the sheep that grazed on the flats of Mont Saint-Michel produced the marine sweaters that were an important work wear for the local fishermen and sailors, and were the prototype for the practicality of today's St. James shirts.
The business continued to grow rapidly in the 20th century, and the company name was changed to the current name 'TRICOT SAINT JAMES'.
