DERUは1950～70年代初期まで存在したドイツの工房。
1950年代に教材として革の玩具を製造し、ドイツの学校等へ納入していたが、1960年代に入り複雑な構造のアニマルの製造を開始した。
1枚のヌメ革を元に、カット・曲げ・圧着・リベット打ちの卓越した技術を駆使して作られている。
工房が消滅し長い年月を経た現在、「German ORIGAMI」として再評価されている。
しかし今日に至るまで、この動物の生みの親・製作者に関する情報はほとんど得られていない。

DERUに長年魅了され続けたビョルン・ディットマン（Björn Dittmann）。彼はDERUの復活を目指し、2021年職人技をもつセーレン・リヒター（Sören Richter）と出会い、見事に近年復活させることに成功した。


現在はゾウ・サル・キリンの3種類の作品が世に送り出されている。
※植物タンニンなめしの革を使用し、ハンブルグでハンドメイドされている。

DERU is a German workshop that existed from the 1950s to the early 1970s.
In the 1950s, the company manufactured leather toys as educational materials and delivered them to German schools, etc. In the 1960s, the company began manufacturing animals with complex structures.
The company's products are made from a single piece of noumé leather, using outstanding techniques for cutting, bending, crimping, and riveting.
After the workshop disappeared and many years have passed, the product has been reevaluated as "German ORIGAMI.
To this day, however, little information is available on the creator and maker of this animal.

Björn Dittmann, who has been fascinated by DERU for many years. He set out to revive the DERU, and in 2021 he met Sören Richter, a master craftsman, who has successfully revived it in recent years.


Currently, three types of DERU products are available: elephants, monkeys, and giraffes.
The leather is vegetable-tanned and handmade in Hamburg.
