A large coverlet with a pattern called Double Wedding Ring, derived from wedding rings.
In the 1800s, American girls had the habit of making 13 bedspread quilts as they dreamed of their own marriage, even as young as they could hold a needle .
Up to 12 quilts are made before the engagement, and the 13th quilt, called the bridal quilt, is made after the engagement is finalized.
This wedding ring is the 13th one made.
A traditional American quilt pattern that was popular from the 1920s to the 1930s.
