SIERRA DESIGNS는 1965년 미국 캘리포니아주에서 탄생해 창립자인 조지 마크스와 밥 스완슨의 2명의 청년에 의한 오랜 세월에 걸친 아웃도어 경험으로 축적한 아이디어와 기술을 의류, 가방 , 캠핑 용품 (텐트, 침낭)에 살려, 고기능으로 고품질의 아웃도어 브랜드로서 성장을 이루었습니다.
1968년에 영원한 정평 소재인 60/40 소재(통칭:록용)를 이용한 마운틴 파카를 미국에서 발표하자마자, 순식간에 대히트가 되어, 현재 아우터 쉘 재킷의 원점이 되었습니다.

일본에서는, 1975년에 60/40 소재를 사용한 마운틴 파카가 판매되고, 미국과 마찬가지로 또 굉장히 아웃도어 웨어로서 침투해, 그 후 1980년대에는 마운틴 파카를 거리복으로서 착용하는 스타일이 유행해 인기 를 부동의 것으로 했습니다.
그리고 지금도 60/40 소재를 사용한 마운틴 파카의 인기는 쇠퇴하지 않고, 마운틴 파카의 정평품으로 많은 팬을 매료 계속하고 있습니다.
