VERONICA KENDALL is a ceramic artist who reinterprets traditional decorations found in African and pre-Columbian American art for the modern era.
Based in London.
Drawing inspiration from the geometric patterns of traditional mud-dyed fabrics (mud cloth) from Mali and abstract textile designs from Congo, she elevates historical patterns into modern "sculptural forms."
All works are made of stoneware using the slab-building technique (a method of assembling clay slabs). By experimentally employing various techniques such as sgraffito and wax resist on a base of subdued slip and glaze tones, she creates beautifully textured surfaces with rhythm.
While sharing a common design language, each piece is handcrafted, displaying unique expressions, making every item a one-of-a-kind original.
